"For years, I’ve utilized the age-old soundcheck trick of asking my interview subjects, “What did you have for breakfast this morning?” I’m often delighted by the nature of their responses, ranging from the mundane to the wondrous. Soundchecks can provide unique windows in which interviewees hover between the skin they occupy and the persona they aim to project. This liminal state allows for fleeting utterances to slip onto tape.

I’ve clipped and catalogued many of these soundcheck responses as a batch of Breakfast Leftovers (listen). My appreciation for the collection lies in its unguarded spontaneity. Here, you’ll find an offering of unfiltered culinary recollections and ramblings from musicians, sound engineers, record producers, visual artists, and filmmakers. When digested as a continuous string, these recordings provide snapshots of unveiled artists. Those downtrodden from one-too-many soggy sandwiches consumed on the road sit alongside others radiating full-bellied bliss and if the adage, “You are what you eat,” holds true, then Breakfast Leftovers proffers that many luminous, creative humans embody oatmeal in motion." - Mark “Frosty” McNeill

In 2020, the Palais des Beaux Arts acquired Breakfast Leftovers for its collection in the form of an audio collage. These clips were recorded between 2017-2020 in the dublab.com radio studios in Los Angeles for McNeill’s Celsius Drop radio program and on shores far beyond as part of varied, sonic explorations.
