The name Palais des Beaux Arts is a multiple. Popularized in the 19th century as an architectural container for primarily Western European aristocratic wealth and its colonial exploits, this dangling signifier continues to be emptied and filled with varying degrees of intensity across the globe – Madrid, Belgium, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Lille, Vienna, and now St. Louis.

For their contribution to the group exhibition Freedom in a Platform (St. Louis, USA), Palais des Beaux Arts Wien created a backdoor portal between their institutional surface and that of the Luminary’s. Placed in the corner of the Luminary's homepage, a hamburger menu icon connects the two institutions together, exploring the multiple states and meanings of buttons, calls to action and the spatial experience of browsing.

"Featuring an architectural structure for rest and communal care and a cleaner that chemically cancels itself out, seats cast in birdseed meant to find final form in their unmaking outdoors and a performance that embodies the complex alliances that exist between marginalized communities, Freedom in a Platform opens both an altered physical space and new ways of operating within it.‍

This show likewise opens but doesn’t quite close, operating on overlapping durations, dispersing to other spaces, and occupying the gallery in ever-evolving contexts before leading immediately into the Counterpublic public art platform scaled to our neighborhood."
(James McAnally)

Since 2019,  Everyone is Raw can be found in the corner of theluminaryarts.com in the form of a call to action button. The work was conceived and produced by Seth Weiner for the Palais des Beaux Arts Wien as part of the Luminary's Residency for Artist Parents.
